Resources for Parents
Parenting after separation is tough. The resources on this page are designed to give you a little bit of help at a time when emotions are running high.

Video calls
Video calls might be your only link with your child for weeks or months. Connecting through a screen is challenging, and parents often fall into common mistakes:
-
Limit “I miss you” and “I love you”: Overuse can make kids feel responsible for your emotions or pressured to respond. Once at the end is enough.
-
Don’t overload with questions: Kids give short answers. Comment on their outfit, toys, or upcoming events to spark conversation.
-
Don’t expect them to lead: Use games, filters, or “Would you rather?” questions to keep it fun and engaging (would you rather be an elephant or an ant for a day?).
-
Keep it short: Kids may only need a few minutes. Pushing for longer calls can hurt connection.
-
Skip teaching time: Calls are for bonding, not lessons or tests—save learning for another time unless they ask.
