Parenting Coordination

A child-focussed, collaborative process to assist in implementing parenting orders and co-parenting after separation.

Final care agreements do not automatically end parental conflict. Many parents continue to struggle with implementing the Orders. Parenting Coordination is a specialised service to move from being in conflict to co-parenting.

Couple in Mediation

What is invovled?

Your coordinator will meet with both parents together and/or individually work with you to communicate with each other., resolve disputes and find solutions while they implement a new plan, or when a new issue arises.

At Salus we prefer to connect with parents online to save on cost and time.

When it is recommended?

PC may be ordered by the Court, recommended in a Family Report or by a lawyer, or the need may be identified due to the ongoing conflict.

It can be useful when parents are unable to communicate safely and/or effectively. They may be struggling to make joint key decisions when there is shared Parental Responsibility, where there is conflict at changeover, or where the continued negative feelings about each other are impacting the children.

What it is not

Parenting Coordination is not family therapy and it does not directly involve the children.

It is not mediation or dispute resolution, it occurs after the plans have been agreed upon.

It is not one sided and both parents must commit to being involved. However sessions may be individual.
