A limited report detailing and preparing professional analysis of a specific, narrow issue in conflict, as identified by the Court to assist in final decision making.

Why are they ordered

A specific issues report is Ordered when the ongoing dispute is about a single, narrow issue. 

When are they ordered?

The Family Law system aims for families to resolve conflicts for the care arrangements for children without the assistance of the Court. This is why you will be encouraged to engage in mediation and dispute resolution throughout the process.

 

When it is clear that the two parties are not able to reach an agreement on a spcific issue, the Court will order a report to assist in making the final decision.

What is the assessment process?

The process for specific issues assessment varies greatly depending on the issue in dispute. It may be based on written material, interviews, consultations or a mix of all.

 

These reports are shorter in length and may take 3-4 weeks to complete.

What happens with the assessment

Once the assessment is complete it is provided to the Court. The Court distributes it to the parties in the matter. The report is treated as highly confidential and only those whom the Court has agreed can view the report, may view it.
